ANOTHER 'SPECIAL' MIDWEST
This
is another
Midwest
"Special
Buy"
which was
probably
sold in
late
1938 or
early
1939.
The
'Special'
part of
this radio
is its 15
tube
chassis.
Note the
two tuning
eyes. One
eye is
more
sensitive
for tuning
in weak
and
distance
stations.
I
have a
mailing
flyer
showing
this
Special
Chassis
offered in
several
1938
cabinets
with a
note
stating
how many
of each
are
available.
"Hurry, the supply is limited!"
Was
this a way
to use up
left over
cabinets?
Compare
this
cabinet to
the 1938
model MM-12.
The
radio does
feature
three
bands, a
12 inch
speaker,
compensated
volume
control
and, push
button
tuning.
This
'Special'
chassis is
basically
a stripped
down
version
of the 17
tube
platform
offered in
1939.
Compared
to the 17
tube, this
chassis
has no RF
stage,
no
Automatic
Frequency
Control,
only 3
bands and
no
motor
driven
dial.
